Principal's Message
Greetings Lorraine families!
My name is Susan Norton and I am excited about serving as
the Principal of Lorraine Elementary School. Dr. Ray has been a colleague of
mine for over 10 years. During that time we have shared many stories and
experiences about our respective schools. I know the affection he had for this
community and from what I can tell, the feelings are mutual. I have not come to
“replace” Dr. Ray, but to provide the leadership and support to the staff,
students, and parents of Lorraine to continue the great success this community
has always achieved.
I am a native of Rockdale County, with a family that goes back
generations in the community. My parents both graduated from Rockdale County
High School and I followed by attending Honey Creek Elementary, Edwards Middle
School, and graduated from Heritage High School. Following graduation, I attended
The University of Georgia, where I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in
Early Childhood Education. I began my teaching career at South Jackson
Elementary School in Jackson County and served there for 10 years.
At the end of 2000, my husband and I moved our two daughters
back to Conyers to be with family. I began teaching at Barksdale Elementary School
for the 2001-2002 school year. I taught for 3 years and during that time earned
my leadership degree from Georgia State University. I then served as the
Assistant Principal for 10 years and finished at Barksdale after serving 3
years as the Principal. In the spring of 2017, I was asked to transfer to Honey
Creek, my former elementary school, and served as their Principal for 2 years.
At the announcement of Dr. Ray’s retirement in May, I was again asked to
transfer and am now here with you at Lorraine.
I believe that my tenure as an educator, in both the
classroom and in leadership, my knowledge and love of the Rockdale Community,
and my experiences both personally and professionally have equipped me to
provide the support and leadership for this school.
For those I have had the opportunity to meet, I thank you
for your kindness and welcome. For those I have not yet had the opportunity to
meet, I look forward to meeting you and building lasting relationships that
will support our students in their growth and success during their time here at
Lorraine and that such will carry them on in their school and life careers.
Thank you and take care.
